First Aid, Safety & Rescue for Surfers

This course in for surfers is aimed at giving the participant the experience, skills and practical training to be able to recognise, rescue and treat a fellow surfer, family member, friend or even a complete stranger in the surf environment, should they get into difficulty.


This 8-hr full-day course features a wide range of subjects, such as surf specific first aid, basic surf rescue techniques; theory on the beach environment, waves, tides, rips, medical conditions and basic life support in the aquatic environment.


As well as the theoretical element there will be practical training on land and water-based scenarios delivered by our international team of experienced,  and well-qualified professionals, who work full time training beach lifeguards and safety teams worldwide. 


This lifesaving course for surfers, has been developed by surfers, surf professionals, lifeguards, and Paramedics involved in surfing, for everyone involved in surfing activities.


It is specifically designed for medically non-trained surfers, body boarders and Stand Up Paddlers to gain the vital skills to look after themselves and others in the surf environment.


This First Aid and rescue course for surfers is all about making the surf zone a safer place!


Attending this workshop will also provide candidates a taste of what to expect on our 5-day beach lifeguard courses.

Aim of the course


To prepare and train medically non-trained surfers and watersports enthusiasts in Surf specific First Aid, to learn and master basic aquatic life-saving support and rescue techniques.


Who can take this course?


This first aid course for surfers course is open to and appropriate for ANY surfer or water-sports enthusiast interested in keeping themselves, friends, fellow surfers, or family members safe in the surf.

Fitness Requirement


If you’re fit, healthy, 16 or over, and can swim 50m, paddle a board through the surf, run and are medically and physically fit, you can do this course.


Is there a Certificate?


Yes, every participant attending and completing the course will be awarded a certificate of attendance which also details topics covered.
