WILD SWIMMING SAFETY COURSE

On a hot summer day, what could be more refreshing than slipping into the cool, clear waters of a hidden Cornish rockpool? And what could be more exciting than plunging into the cool waters of a secluded harbour or bay?
Our rivers, lakes and waterfalls, coves, caves and beaches, are cleaner, safer and more accessible than ever and the health benefits of wild swimming are drawing people in in their droves.
It's because of its growth in popularity, accelerated in part due to pool opening restrictions implemented during the pandemic, that we have designed a wild swimming safety course.
The intention is to give its participants the basic knowledge needed to keep themselves and others with them safe during an open water swim.
WHAT'S COVERED
The course runs over has 2 sessions the first one covers the theoretical elements associated with water safety
via Zoom ( 2 hrs ) and then in the second session we hit the water to learn the practical elements. ( 2.5 hrs )
Session One
The theory training includes:
Learning about the beach environment, tides, waves, wind and rips.
Planning a wild swimming trip
Essential Equipment
Safety and Rescue
Session Two
The practical training includes:
How to safely enter cold water
What to do if you get into difficulty
What to do if you see someone in difficulty
How to alert emergency series
How to self-rescue
How to rescue someone else
How to escape a rip, with practice in a safe rip under the guidance of our fully qualified beach lifeguards.
How to treat hypothermia
Scenarios
You can choose to do both sessions or either.
Theory only: £10
Practical only: £40
Both ( Recommended ): £45

For the practical training, you will need to have a reasonable level of fitness and a wetsuit is highly recommended.
